People crossing a street with a motivational quote about life changes.

WHEN LIFE CHANGES DIRECTION, HOW DO WE FIND OUR WAY FORWARD?

R4 Style is a lived-experience framework for navigating the crossings that reshape our lives—through Rock Bottom, Recovery, Resilience, and Reinvention.

At its center is a simple metaphor: the curb, the crosswalk, and the other side of the street—recognition, uncertainty and movement, and the continuing work of rebuilding.

SOME CROSSINGS ARE CHOSEN. OTHERS ARRIVE WITHOUT WARNING.

Illness, grief, disability, addiction, divorce, changes in identity, aging, loss, and unexpected disruption can leave us somewhere between the life we knew and what comes next.

R4 Style offers a compassionate way to understand that space.

At its center is a simple metaphor: the curb, the crosswalk, and the other side of the street.

FOUR REALITIES. NO FIXED ORDER.

Rock Bottom. Recovery. Resilience. Reinvention.

The Four R’s are not stages to complete or boxes to check. They are recurring realities that can help us recognize what may already be happening in our lives.

Sometimes we are rebuilding. Sometimes adapting. Sometimes beginning again. Often, we are doing more than one at once.

YOUR LIFE MAY HAVE CHANGED. YOUR STORY IS STILL BECOMING.

The Crossing Trilogy follows one continuing journey through disruption, survival, rebuilding, and the ongoing work of creating meaning.

REFLECTIONS FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE CROSSING.

Notes from the Crosswalk is the R4 Style blog—a collection of personal reflections, lived-experience insights, and thoughtful conversations about navigating change.

These notes do not offer formulas or easy answers. They offer language, perspective, and space to recognize what may be unfolding in your own life.

ONE LIFE. MANY CROSSINGS.

I created R4 Style from lived experience—not because I have mastered change, but because I have spent much of my life learning how to live through it.

Illness, recovery, disability, grief, aging, reinvention, community, and unexpected change have taught me that wisdom does not belong only to people with credentials, titles, or formal education. We all bring something to the conversation.

R4 Style is where I share what those crossings continue to teach me.

WHEREVER YOU ARE, YOU CAN BEGIN.

You may be standing at the curb, moving through uncertainty, or learning how to live on the other side.

There is no single path, pace, or right way to cross.

Wherever you are today, start with what is true. Notice what you need. Then consider the next honest step

begin your crossing

R4 Style is not a prescription for overcoming adversity.

It is a language and framework for understanding where we may find ourselves when life changes—and how we might continue from there.
