Understanding R4 Style

A Lived-Experience Framework for Navigating Life’s Crossings

R4 Style offers a compassionate way to understand what happens when life changes direction. It does not tell us how to feel, how quickly to move, or where we should end up. It gives us language for recognizing where we are and considering what may come next.

The Crossing

The Crossing is the central metaphor of R4 Style. The curb represents recognizing that life has changed. The crosswalk reflects the uncertainty and movement between what was and what comes next. The other side of the street represents adapting, rebuilding, and creating meaning within the life we now have.

These are not fixed locations. We may move forward, pause, step back, or begin another crossing as life continues to change.

The Four R’s

Within the crossing are four recurring realities: Rock Bottom, Recovery, Resilience, and Reinvention.

They are not steps or stages to complete. They may overlap, repeat, or appear in a different order. Together, they offer language for acknowledging change, regaining stability, remaining engaged with life, and imagining what may still be possible.

What R4 Style Is—and Is Not

R4 Style is not therapy, medical advice, a self-help program, or a promise that every crossing will be easy. It is a lived-experience framework that offers perspective, encourages honest reflection, and reminds us that we do not have to navigate change alone.

I believe wisdom grows not only through education or professional expertise, but also through lived experience, careful listening, compassion, reflection, and what we learn from one another.

The Meaning Behind the Logo

The R4 Style logo brings the framework to life through four crosswalk bars, representing the Four R’s. Its transition from deep navy to warm cognac reflects movement from uncertainty toward hope and possibility, while the rising sun reminds us that light remains ahead.

Wherever you are—standing at the curb, somewhere in the crosswalk, or learning to live on the other side—you do not need to have everything figured out before you begin.

We Talk. We Share. We Learn.

A Question for the Crossing

Where do you recognize yourself in the crossing today—and what might one honest next step look like?
