Step Into the Crossing

When life changes direction, the crossing begins.

Life doesn't always unfold the way we planned.

A diagnosis. The end of a relationship. Recovery. Disability. Retirement. Grief. A career change. The loss of someone we love. An unexpected opportunity. Sometimes life changes in an instant. Sometimes it changes so gradually we don't recognize it until we realize we've been living a different life for quite some time.

Whatever brings us there, most of us eventually arrive at a moment when we know we can't remain where we are.

That's where R4 Style begins.

R4 Style is built around four realities that many of us encounter when life changes direction: Rock Bottom, Recovery, Resilience, and Reinvention. They aren't steps to complete or stages to move through in order. Life is rarely that predictable. Instead, they're experiences we often revisit throughout our lives as we learn, adapt, heal, and continue moving forward.

At the heart of R4 Style is The Crossing—a simple metaphor inspired by the moments that have shaped my own life. The curb represents recognizing that something has changed. The crosswalk represents the uncertainty and courage required to move forward. The other side of the street represents rebuilding a life with greater clarity, purpose, and intention.

Every meaningful change in my life has begun with a crossing.

Over the years, that journey has included living with HIV, recovery from addiction, disability, retirement, advocacy, aging, and discovering that some of life's greatest lessons emerge not despite disruption, but because of it. Those experiences eventually became the foundation for my books, my speaking, and the framework you'll find throughout this website.

Whether you're here because you're navigating a difficult season, looking for encouragement, interested in The Crossing Trilogy, exploring the R4 Style framework, or simply curious about what this community is all about, I'm glad you're here.

My hope is that you'll find more than information. I hope you'll find perspective, connection, and perhaps a new way of thinking about the crossing you're experiencing in your own life.

Because none of us walks alone.

We Talk. We Share. We Learn.

Those five words have become the guiding philosophy of R4 Style. Every reflection, every conversation, every book, and every presentation begins with the belief that our stories matter—and that sharing them helps us better understand ourselves and one another.

Thank you for visiting.

I'm grateful our paths have crossed.

The journey begins here.
