COMMUNITY

Belonging Is Part of the Crossing

For much of my life, I thought resilience was primarily individual.

Experience taught me otherwise.

Community can provide recognition, safety, challenge, humor, support, perspective, and the reminder that we do not have to reinvent ourselves entirely alone.

I live at The Pryde, LGBTQ+-affirming senior housing in Hyde Park, Boston. The people, conversations, activities, and everyday experiences around me continue to shape how I think about aging, identity, resilience, connection, belonging, and purpose.

R4 Style is my independent work and is not an official program of The Pryde.

But community is an important part of the philosophy behind it.

Connection can take many forms: friendship, volunteering, advocacy, peer support, caregiving, conversation, service, or simply showing up consistently enough for another person to know they are seen.

Our crossings are personal.

They do not have to be solitary.
